Talinka creates a new distinctive sound that explores the unique and diverse journeys of four British musicians: Jenny Bliss, a baroque virtuoso artist, Yaron Stavi, one of the leading bass players in Europe, Gilad Atzmon, an internationally acclaimed Jazz saxophonist with an affinity for ethnic sounds and his wife Tali Atzmon, whose singing has been paired up with her theatrical career. The outcome of this musical journey is a natural breathing, deep and spacious sonic adventure.

The unusual choice of instruments and combination of personalities creates an amalgam of past and present, East and West. It creates a natural continuum between ethnic, jazz, tango and early music; with their take on a few jazz standards from the catalogue of greats and 7 or 8 originals based on the injustice of the plight of the worlds downtrodden. The programme consists of seven original compositions written by members of the group plus arrangements of Coltrane’s Invitation by the Polish film composer Bronislau Kaper and the jazz standards Don’t Explainand You Don’t Know What Love Is.

It transcends beyond musical boundaries. It is all about music for the sake of music.

Every now and again you come across a jazz album which dispenses with all the usual features and starts afresh: instrumentation, form, melody, harmony and soloing protocols are all reworked here with simplicity, depth and maturity. ~ Sarah Chaplin, London Jazz News
